Be they matrons weeding in the middle of a field or grandmothers selling fish at a fish shop, they can belt out their original improvisation of Jindo Arirang songs on the spot upon requests -- indeed the best charm of Jindo. Get carried away and enjoy the essence of age-old Korean traditions through Namdo Sori Tour.
- Sopo Traditional Village Where Old Traditions Live Strong
Sopo Village is the largest village among natural villages in Jindo-gun. Before Jindodaegyo Bridge was built, the village was famous for being the only ferry for passenger ships connecting Mokpo and Jindo. Sopo has preserved and transmitted a number of folk performances and traditional folk songs with their original forms intact: Geolgun Nongak tells the story of military spies dressed as beggars to lead the battle to victory. Matrons and maidens sang of their rancor through Beteul Norae (Loom Song). The Myeongdarigut Ritual was performed to pray for a child born with a short life to live very long. Datbae Norae (Sailboat Song) was sung by fishers wishing for a full load of fish to bring home.
