Social Enterprise No. 2013-064 / Designated as Rural Resort Experience Village No. 3 of Jindo County
Established in 2006 under the corporate name “Jindo Silver Art Troupe,” the itinerant groups performing at traditional marketplace (jangteo gutpae) have sought to promote the unique cultures of Jindo, contribute to establishing a healthy culture for the elderly, and develop Jindo’s folk culture through performing arts and activities.
To share the spirit with wider audiences, the name was changed to “Jindo Folk Culture Art Troupe” in 2012; for a more stable operation, the company added molasses and bed-and-breakfast businesses for visitors.
Starting 2009, every Sunday, the troupe has organized a regular Sunday Show, reenacting the value of disappearing folk art and trying to teach the importance of folk art to the contemporary who are losing their cultural identity. Jindo Folk Culture Art Troupe is a social enterprise that is more concerned with raising social values than making profit, and its goal is to make our society better for tomorrow by offering free shows and classes on folk art to the neglected class of people like multicultural families, elderly, and low-income families.
